Some things we saw inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art



On Friday night we arrived in New York City. After a short tour of the city, we arrived at the wharf where we were going to have dinner before going to the theater. We enjoyed a performance by a Mime.

During our tour, the President of Columbia walked through the Rotunda. We were able to observe the security needed for a Head of State.

Thursday

I didn't get everything I wanted up on the Wednesday post, but I'll come back later and add some more. This is a group shot in front of the National Capitol immediately following our tour.

Catching Up

I wanted to tell more about Wednesday's activities, but the internet would not cooperate. Tonight things are a little better, so I'll recap Wednesday and see if I can catch up to today.
We began Wednesday with a tour of the National Cemetery at Arlington, VA. John, our local guide, took us on a wonderful tour of the site. We visited the grave of President Kennedy.




We were unable to visit the grave of his brother as it was the anniversary of his death and the family was there visiting. One of the highlights was seeing the changing of the guard.



The students were impressed with the ceremony showed great respect. After Arlington, we went to the memorial to honor President Roosevelt. This is a wonderful monument that depicts many important events in his life. It seems that President Roosevelt enjoyed many water-related activities and there are many water features to represent this. We thought it was a good place to take a group picture.










After leaving downtown Washington DC, we headed a little way out of town to visit Mt. Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington.

We arrived at the airport bright and early. Well, Ok, early. Everybody was excited to finally be on our way and finally getting on the plane. For some students this was their first time flying. Because of the incoming clouds, the weather was a little unsettled and that made for a bumpy ride out of Sac. We had a good flight to Salt Lake City where we had about an hour on the ground. We then settled back for our 4.3 hour flight to Washington DC, landing at Reagan International about 4:15 local time. After about a 45 minute wait, we were met by our tour buses and began our sight seeing. Most of us were hungry and went to a small place to have a meal. Afterwards we were on the bus again, traveling around Washington DC. Our tour guide pointed out landmarks and points of interest. We got off the bus and visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Viet Nam Vets Memorial, and the newest memorial in the area, is the one that pays tribute to all those who served in WWII. It is an awe-inspiring

Greetings, fellow travelers!
The final count down has begun. We are packing our bags, checking all the details in preparation for our trip to Washington DC. This will be the first time many of these students have been away from home or ever been on a plane. We are looking forward to an exciting trip. We will spend several days in Washington DC, seeing such things as Arlington Cemetary, Ford's Theater and the Smithsonian Museums. We are looking forward to this trip. There will be pictures here and things to see.
